Title: Diner cuts trash bill by recycling almost everything:
Most people do what they can to help the environment, but one restaurant is leading by example.
At Caitlyn and Cody’s Diner in Milford Twp., Bucks Co., diners dish on savory and sweet treats, but it’s okay if they don’t clean their plates.
“We take all scrap materials from the plates and scrape them into a container,” said diner owner Debra Henning.
That container is for compost and part of a much larger recycling program. Henning and her husband, John, recycle 95 percent of the waste generated at the restaurant.
“We turn around and recycle cardboard boxes, cardboard containers cans,” said Henning. “The plastic ketchup bottles, we’ve got the dish washing containers that we recycle. Nothing is wasted.”
Not only does the recycling program reduce the amount of trash they throw away, Henning said it’s also helped cut their trash bill by 80 percent.
